Volvo drivers love their key fob's handy remote features. They can lock and unlock their vehicle and start the engine, and even locate it with the smartphone app.

Put the key fob face up on a clean surface. Find the button that will let it go. Put a coin between the cover of the fob and the fob, then carefully pull up.

Locking the Doors

Volvo's remote key fobs can unlock the tailgate, doors, and the flap that holds the fuel filler of your vehicle with a press of one button. They can also switch on the ignition, activate the alarm, and operate the sunroof if it's fitted. It's no longer necessary to search for your keys, or have to worry about locking out of your vehicle.

If you own a brand new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, then you may be unaware of some of its key fob's hidden features. You can use the lock/unlock option manually if your key fob battery fails.

To unlock the manual lock or unlock button Hold your key fob with the Volvo logo facing up. Find the black button near the edge of your key fob and gently press it. This will open a cover that conceals the manual key blade. This cover can be flipped counterclockwise with a flathead or coin.

Starting the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs provide an unbeatable level of convenience and functionality unmatched by traditional manual keys. However, like any battery-operated electronic device key fobs can lose its charge or cease working over time. If you notice that your key fob isn't as responsive when you hit the lock or unlock button, it could be time to replace the battery.

You can enable this feature with the key fob in case your car has a dealer installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will then heat or cool to the same setting it was set to when parked, and it will continue to run for a maximum of 15 minutes.

Use a fingernail to remove the cover from the back of the key fob. Under the cover, on a diagonal near the edge of body, you should find a button. Take it off by sliding it downwards, then to the right. The cover will break loose and slide off, revealing the manual blade! If you are unable to locate the button, look around the newly revealed manual key access to find a hidden lever or slot.

Closing the Windows

One of the hidden features that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is that they allow you to open all windows immediately using them. This is very useful when trying to squeeze into parking spaces that are tight or just want to breathe fresh air while driving.

Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower all the windows, and also the sunroof in case your car comes with one. When you're done driving, you can close everything by pressing the lock button once more for four seconds.

You can also use your key fob to activate your car's panic alarm. This will produce the alarm sound loud enough to draw attention to the car and deter thieves. It also helps you to get home safely when you've been out all night. This feature is helpful should you reside in a hazardous area, or want to ensure your family's safety when you are away from home.

Opening the Tailgate

Volvo has loaded its key fob with variety of useful features. These are perfect when you're busy shopping for groceries or helping your kids to pack their sports gear following practice.



If you have the Hands Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped) then you can open it by using the key fob. Press the button to open it, then press the same button to close it once you're done.

When you're ready to start your vehicle then use the key fob to press the START button (and don't worry about your battery dying or your car not starting since it has a backup key mechanical slot as well). This is only one of many helpful tips for your brand new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm

Modern key fobs are more convenient than a mechanical car key. However, they're not able to work perfectly for long, and their batteries can eventually die. If you're in a hurry, or aren't keen on going to a shop to have your key fob reprogrammed you can attempt to achieve it at home.

Choose a clean, flat surface and lay out your key fob, battery as well as any additional keys. Place the key fob on the surface with the Volvo logo facing up Then, locate a small black button on the left-hand side of the fob and slide it downwards and to the right.  key fob volvo  will begin to loosen and fall off leaving the key's mechanical blade beneath it.

You can open all doors as well as the rear gate by pressing the unlock button on the key fob two times. The lock button also closes the windows and the sunroof (if equipped) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Connect the battery, and the alarm should stop.
